I do volunteer work for the homeless in Toronto and this right here is so very true. I have never before seen so many homeless women with disabilities looking for help. ODSP no longer cuts it (and I would argue hasn't cut it for years).

comebine that with the recent news that the budget for helping abused homeless women in Toronto is 100k...I shit you not...I'm not only seeing more disabled women but just women in general. The stereotype that the homeless are addicts or mentally ill males no longer applies.

If you're homeless and get on Ontario Works you'll get $343 a month and IF you're lucky an extra $22 for "basic needs". it's a joke. there is no safety net. for the city, the province, the country they'd prefer it in all honesty if you just died outside somewhere out of the way.

Yup. It's not enough to live off of alone; esp for those of us who need assistance w/ daily tasks (& home care is underfunded). But we also face clawbacks or ineligibility dependant on spouse/roommate/family income, forcing us to be financially+physically dependent on their unpaid labor. It's awful.
