Wow, that's really disappointing. :( Having more events would surely only be good for the community of artists+readers, it doesn't detract from one event for others to exist, when they ALL get the idea into people's heads that that's where you find new comics you wouldn't stumble upon otherwise. - ThreadSky

Exactly 8/ I would understand them being upset if someone else decided to run another comic fair in October that was then directly competing but otherwise, more exposure for more artists and more community awareness is only good???

That's the thing - I don't pretend to know what running an online fair is like, but I have been involved in running physical small press/comic fairs, and one of the best things was the community of OTHER fairs at different times who we supported and they supported us in turn, it benefited EVERYONE.

Exactly!!!! It helps EVERYONE. And a lot of on person fairs can exist at the same time and you don't get disqualified from participating in one if you're involved with another???

Yeah, it's super weird to disqualify people for that, when I'd see it the same way as how people table at various events (or try to) - and you'd never expect people to apply for just one event a year and that's it, that's all you get to participate in, good luck if you don't even get into THAT.

Y U P. It seems pretty childish/like they want to have a monopoly on the idea? Like I LOVE Shortbox and what they're doing, don't get me wrong, but this part of it is overall silly. Especially silly if they only plan to run it for 1-2 more years? Why not let other fairs get established.

I do too, I've bought SO many comics through them, and it just feels like this is detrimental to everyone. Small comic artists and readers are a community, and it thrives on collective efforts to get stuff seen. Let other fairs exist, support them, and they'll support you in turn.
