This goes well beyond a simple wrongful dismissal suit. It provides a timeline and paper trail of extensive political interference on behalf of one company (Alberta Surgical Group). Shocking that all Mentzelopoulos is seeking is to paid for the remainder of her contract.
Not a lawyer, but she is likely seeking redress based on the terms of her contract. No one has tried to smear her reputation, nor can she claim "constructive dismissal", either of which could result in an award of damages. She likely does not want to appear vindictive as she sticks the knife in.
There is very little about Premier Smith in the statement of claim. Instead it is about all the people around her: former Premier's Chief of Staff Marshall Smith, Deputy Health Minister (and now acting AHS CEO and Sole Board member) Andre Tremblay, Health Minister Adriana LaGrange....
Jitendra Prasad (officially working for Alberta Health, but formerly with AHS and with ties to Alberta Surgical Group, Doug Horner (lobbyist for ASG and former Finance Minister and Unclear to current Finance Minister).
Beyond the lobbying on behalf of ASG, there is lots of allegations about the attempts to fire critics of the government, and blatant threats. And whether Mentzelopoulos's firing was even legal.
There will be a paper trail. Many references to emails (which I am sure that Mentzelopoulos has kept) as well as phone conversations (which Mentzelopoulos kept contemporaneous notes on).
Because the SofC was filed digitally, I think(?), i can't see a court case number on this filing. Do you know what it is? I sure want to read their Statement of Defense and likely counter suit against her as they usually do to intimidate.
So far Danielle Smith seems to have escaped direct accountability. Like a mob boss she doesn't give direct orders but rather implicit orders that those around her understand and then follow through on. How long before people realize they need cooperate with the investigations to save themselves.
Remember that she previously bragged about being personally involved with getting MHCare's children's Tylenol order. You know, the company linked to ASG in this lawsuit.
Also, it's her government. Either she was involved or out of touch to the point of serious negligence. I opt for the former, but the latter would be bad enough.
Yep. Both the Tylenol and the ASG contracts are tied together in this, which then involves TWO of her Heath Ministers in addition to her own CoS having his fingers all over this.
Regardless of what she thinks, people will be demanding accountability from her and the calls to resign will grow louder and louder until her own party wants her gone!
The first thing we heard from Smith when this all came out was she instructed her Acting CEO of AHS to review the process for awarding contracts. Her last minute attempt to control the narrative. I'm 100% certain that she will be found to be involved. You're working on borrowed time Smith.
Mr. Smith allegedly knew of the SLAPP lawsuit filed against Nate Pike by MHCare, his criticisms of the Tylenol deal on Twitter, before it was filed. As well as allegedly pressuring Mentzelopoulos to fire Pike, who is a paramedic in his day job.
OMG. This UCP gov't is so corrupt and power hungry. They will stop at nothing and coerce people. And there are so many back-room deals, it's unbelievable. Of the 12 premiers I've live under in this province, this is the absolute most corrupt group ever!
And in #26 & #27 she alleges that Mr. Smith informed her that they were using extreme methods to try to find the identity of an anonymous Twitter account owner who was critical of the government, and that MHCare would use a SLAPP lawsuit to ruin their life.
It's all so well-documented, and the UCP have not made a single plausible reply to any of it, at all, since the scandal broke. It seems impossible to imagine Danielle's Smith's government lasting another month.

When it's likely more that it's a heady mix of both.
The Alberta government has tangled with someone who was ready for their bullshit.

Party of free speech my ass.
Unless nothing reality-based matters anymore.
