Never, never, NEVER did they campaign on restructuring AHS! NOR taking over pension funds. NOR an AB police force. The last two are still simmering in the background just waiting to be sprung in us like the health care disaster.
I have experience with a civil case where the defendants were represented by Bennett Jones. Meh. Many mistakes made on their side. Reputation seems much better than their actual work.
Second, LaGrange claims that the restructuring of AHS was due to the mandate that the UCP received in 2023 election. Except, the UCP never campaigned on restructuring during the campaign. They won, and then announced the restructuring.
This may be a legal technicality, but it ignores that she was in regular communication with LaGrange and Premier's Office. She was fired by Andre Tremblay who was DM of Health (but also on the AHS Board). And, the defence claims, Mentzelopoulos was fired for ignoring demands from the Province.
Speaking of legal technicalities, Mentzelopoulos statement of claim argues that she was improperly fired because it was done by Tremblay and not Angela Fong who was the Board Chair at the time.
Fourth, LaGrange disputes Mentzelopoulos's claim that she was fired for announcing that she was going to meet with the Auditor-General about the Alberta Surgical Group contracts. But their evidence is texts about seeing the A-G about Turkish Tylenol.
Fifth, apparently Mentzelopoulos was only told about extent of AHS restructuring days after she started. Not during the hiring process. That does not sound right.
Time to start a new campaign against the UCP. I will call it the “Axe the Tax” campaign against the 13% provincial tax added to every litre of gas and diesel. Pretty catchy don’t you think. Pass it on Albertans. Axe the Tax..Axe the Tax
