but Joshua still showing love and care for his mother because he was so young and she was showing like the bare minimum of control freak care for Joshua, so it makes sense as a child he would internalise that a love, even if he didnt like what she did to him and clive

And clive putting up with the neglect his mother showed him because he didn't want any of her bad mood to bounce off onto Joshua, he probably also asked his dad to not try to get involved because all that matters was Joshua being safe
