totalitarianism is complete gov't control. see Stalinist Russia, Nazi Germany. it's an extreme, and predictable, result of playing with the politics of fascism (fear the "other", conspiracy, mythic past). leaders like Hitler and Trump use fascistic politics to take, consolidate, and expand power.

we are seeing Trump's America enter the totalitarian consolidation phase (hence "giving,") after a decade priming the public with fascist ideology since birtherism, to the 2015 Trump Tower presidential run announcement "they're not sending their best," to Charlottesville, the big lie, J6, and so on.

Six months ago, I saw a video clip of an elderly woman, a Holocaust survivor who said "All that is needed for people to behave like animals is that they be given permission by someone in power."
Trump did that on Jan 6th, 2020. He's doing it now from the Oval Office.
