That shouldn’t cause too much of an issue you would want enough to fill those grooves in the bottom of that heat sink. I didn’t know the pipes were that exposed. It’s double edged sword if the grooves aren’t getting filled and sealed with thermal paste. It also leaves room for air to trap and heat.

Thanks for the tip! applied a small amount of paste in the grooves of the sink, then scraped it even with an old debit card, making sure all gaps were filled. Then I did an even coat on the CPU w/ card and put it together then watched temps and rendered vid… SUCCESS!

I think if you had too much, you would have seen the thermal paste spill out after you put the heat sink down and tightened it.

From what I remember, you should apply thermal paste in a size beteen a grain of rice and the size of a pea.

What you don't want is a giant thick glob in the middle

And a thin spread around it.

You want as even a spread as possible..

If you're noticing specific cores getting hotter then others, then it's possible that you had too much paste above that specific core.

The one fan that makes noise is on the front of the case at the bottom. It’s 1 03 and it might largely be decorative because there is a glass panel on the front but last time I worked on it, I added some spacers around the edges of the front panel to get some airflow in through the front also
