I agree that actual pros & most electeds know this, but think that among the lay public there is little understanding that “affordable housing” describes the level of subsidy as opposed to the level of greed.

Given that a growing majority of people in Seattle are renters, I do not think there is any confusion among renters that the thing they want is for housing prices on the private market, where most renters rent, to be more affordable.

We need social housing models so everyone that is not a high net worth earner has affordable housing. Affordable housing means a person doesn’t paying more than 30% of their gross income on rent, and it is not the same as subsidized housing. You don’t need a subsidy to have affordable housing.
