Just under three years ago, I bought a space heater with a five year warranty. It's a good one. It's made of steel!
Over the past couple of weeks, it has started to conk out. It used to pump out heat like a blast furnace, but now it's more like a summer breeze.

I contacted the maker, who stands behind the product and has offered a refund.
But they don't want me to mail the heater to them, or take it back to the store I bought it from.
Instead what they want me to do is this:
And then email them a picture as proof.
I don't know what I thought they or the store were going to do with the heater when I returned it.
But the prospect of just completely junking and landfilling this big hunk of steel and wiring—that could almost certainly be repaired—is such a bummer I'm just sitting here with icy feet.
I need a new heater and I want the refund to pay for it. I'll probably even buy the same heater again because the heater before it only lasted a year and at least these guys'll give me my money back.
But what a fucking world we live in.
