I'm loving the war cabinet approach, but he's neglecting the culture-war aspect a bit here. He needs to ne clear that Canadians & our Charter support the rights of marginalized and disadvantaged groups.
As someone who falls into a couple of those groups, I completely understand the need for such a cabinet at this time. Focus needs to be on Canada, our security & building economies here. An early election call, when he wins he will likely expand the cabinet to include those ministries.
I agree with you, me too. And honestly since this was put together and I’ve had time to do some homework, restructuring an already top heavy cabinet does not equal elimination.
I think this was much needed imo
Only time will tell but I personally don’t feel every marginalized group needs a minister as long as our needs are met. It’s on us to hold them accountable but I hardly find this a human rights setback as long as the jobs still being done. 🤷🏼♀️
I have read it. But like I said, in my opinion, I disagree with theirs.
I don’t feel that we can’t still accomplish the same goals. I don’t think the sky will fall over this.
We do not know yet which riding he is going to run in. If you happen to live in that riding you could vote for PM Carney. In Canada you cannot vote directly for the leader of a party in a federal election. Only for the candidate you prefer in your riding.
Yeah, I understand basic Canadian politics, thanks 😑 I meant the Liberals. I'm cool with their big tent approach, but only to a point. When our neighbours are buying into anti-DEI propaganda right alongside expansionism and neo-Nazism, I'm VERY concerned about anything that doesn't reinforce DEI+A
Better check that PP is going to put it back then, because he's the alternative. But if you want to cut off your nose to spite your face, all the power to you.
A vote for anyone but the Liberal candidate running in your riding is a vote for PoiLIEvre, ( no other party stands to win the seats to form a government)!do you have any idea where he stands on women's rights, diversity, inclusion ? For a start from May 2024..
I know where PP stands and am very much not for it. But I need to know that Carney stands WITH women and minorities. Otherwise HE is standing right beside PP.
I’m a woman, asking why we need a “Minister of Women”. What was included in that portfolio? Was there a duplication within OTHER portfolios (Labour, Health, Social, Education, Business etc).
A generic “Minister of Women” seems a lot like pandering, and a pat on the head.
It’s somewhat insulting.
I agree ! I am a 75 year old woman who made it without a Minister of Women. As you said make sure EVERYONE'S rights are enshrined in our ministries and laws.
Voting for anyone else enables a Conservative win, and I think PP's plans for women involve a return to more "traditional" roles. Mr Carney has chosen a roughly 50% female cabinet, and I'll take that as a won for now.
I'll probably still vote for him because PP can't win if we want to keep our country, but that doesn't mean we can't keep our eyes open and hold him accountable if he makes efforts to backslide in human rights
"I'm totally blind to what just happened in our neighboring country and am completely fine with the idea of voting in a terrible PoS like PP because I want to learn these painful lessons about democracy on a personal level instead of feeling grateful it's not us." Ftfy
Yes, yes it is. I attempted to clarify my overly passionate statement though. I, & many Canadians need the PM to likewise clarify his stance though. Or it will cause trouble, possibly including dividing the left, alienating some international allies, etc. It's a big deal. PP's a problem too, obvs.
I'm very flexible on what his response looks like, I just need assurances. You should try some mental flexibly yourself - it's a great tool that fosters both better results and greater happiness.

Mark Carney knows this, and STILL got rid of the Minister for Women and Gender Equality

You are absolutely about to let perfect be the enemy of good, and you'll probably hold your head up high like you did the right thing, too.
