Agree @mark-carney.bsky.social needs to immediately address this discourse. Not sure if immediately reinstating or assuring the reinstatement after an election is settled but this deserves his attention. I'm hopeful its strategic but if he doesn't fix it I can't assume I'm right.

All of the special-interest depts in the world won’t help equality for anyone if Canada becomes an autocracy, whether Trump’s, or Poilievre’s. A small cabinet that can respond quickly is that is needed in war-time…that’s where we are right now. This is not normal times.

Women are half the human population, not a "special interest group". Folding gender equality into a largely unrelated portfolio just guarantees that it won't be top of anyone's to-do list. It may have been a strategic move to widen the voter base, but it doesn't signal anything good about Carney.

These ministries aren't gone, they've been rolled into another ministry under Steven Guillbeault. There is an argument that now those issues are in the hands of a more senior minister and more might get done. We shall see!

Completely agree that the ministry is not gone and the underlying activities are still ongoing. The biggest problem is the optics that it is not a priority - and that is a BIG issue. Also a problem is that it is rolled under a male Minister.

He's also responsible for disabilities so a male shouldn't be a problem. The Trudeau government had a female led committee for woman's issues and it got nowhere because of Conservative obstruction. Let's hope there is some progress and give the new ministry some time to develop.
