That time period is the vibe I feel over on Bluesky, which I feel was the environment fostered by the early invite only days of Bluesky and now that there are more diverse communities here now, some things I said then need to be said again here.

White folks, especially cis White folks, really need to remember that in this country, you've had the mic & power to choose who you pass that mic to since you got to these lands.

You've had the mic & floor for 530+ yrs here and have been pretty stingy with the passing of that mic.

Despite that, we've have made great progress in reclaiming/exerting our power & voices. I say reclaiming because we were never voiceless or powerless, but silenced as our narratives were taken, distorted and misrepresented (intentionally and unintentionally).

There has always been a concerted effort to Intentionally silence, whitewash & propagate disempowered & negative stereotypes of who we are & our history to undermine & invalidate our work and our needs. It is done to dehumanize and vilify us to justify the violent oppression of our communities.

And because that concerted effort has been so normalized, it has been internalized and a lot of folks continue to perpetuate it without even realizing it or questioning why they think they know more than we do about who we are, what we should prioritize & how we should address issues we face.

But it's more than that as well because it often comes with a demand for our labor, time and the expectation that we should get behind White folks and what they deem important, so that when they get their needs met then it can "trickle down" or THEN start working on other issues.
