I've been writing about tribal disenrollment since 2014 because it brings up an oversight in our own communities, that our citizenship and basic human rights guaranteed in the US constitution are oft not protected in our sovereign nations and tribal constitutions.

Within the US Constitution, our US citizenship is guaranteed and ironclad...well until Trump takes office anyway, but within our own tribal governments our citizenship can be revoked at will, without due process and with very little recourse.

Less than 1% of federally recognized tribal nations have laws protecting freedom of press, which also impacts the way that tribal disenrollment is framed within our communities because it's not at all or it is framed as exercising our rights to self-determination

And we do have the right to self-determination but with disenrollment that right is weaponized and abused for the sake of greed and corruption not tradition or cultural preservation as it is more prevalent in tribes with per capita payments and political strife.

Disenrollment is why my dad, brother, and I aren't able to register with our tribe. It really, really stinks.
