Paul, what do you think about a GTA model? You get a major numbered completely new iteration like once a decade, with frequent content updates the first few years dwindling over time as resources are pulled and devoted towards the next sequel.

I think that would be great, though Rockstar has essentially infinite resources to do anything they want, whereas Bungie would be a lot more limited

God I hope not, very much time to move on and shape up for a reset in a 3rd game, and hopefully execute everything well this time (being under sony does make me nervous for this tho lol). Right now I guess it's a low cost income source for them to keep going though. But it's past time IMO.

I'm hopeful. We need things to do in the game. The activities are fun, but when you repeat them ad nauseam they get tired. Loot needs a refresh. Plus give us secrets. Hide exciting loot, emblems, shaders in the open world. Content creators would happy, and players would be excited to explore.

Bungie might be smaller in total number of employees today but we never knew how many were focused in D2, if we believe the letter from July 2024 all efforts should be directed to D2 as of today

In the past, if half the studio was doing other stuff that means more people are working on D2 right now

People will play until the servers are shut off. But I went ingame with a friend today and the before-reset lag was appalling - so the servers may not last that long.

It's a shame. It feels like Bungie is being told to focus on Marathon and Destiny is languishing with a skeleton crew.

I'm hoping it can, but Sony is going to need to invest a lot more into it that Bungie was able/willing to. They need to massively increase spending on the engineering team and likely QA. Also need to reduce resources spent on disposable content (through reuse or reducing planned obsolescence)

-- which is to say a Destiny 3, called Destiny 2, same Destiny 2 engine, full reset, new characters -- no link to D2 but for the story . play 2 or 2.5 --

It depends, in my opinion. The game is still fun to play with friends. So, holding onto it for that purpose is fine. As I see it, the delusion is to hope for the game to rise again and become THE Live Service measuring bar. I agree that Destiny 2's peak has passed.

Big issue in my mind is how Bungie seemingly never invested in making the game cheaper to operate. D2 has a significant running cost, as we've seen from the myriad of glitches that go unadressed after the layoffs

I'm curious what "summer" actually means. Most probably assume June, but it could be as late as September, putting them back on their original schedule with September releases. And that is assuming it doesn't slip even further.

I feel like this Dawning event has soured the Destiny experience for a lot of people. It's a fun event which is usually well received but with the number of bugs & glitches it's been almost unrelenting negativity - if that continues they're going to need to rely on new, rather than existing, players

I’m convinced that Destiny won’t die, but Bungie might. Part of Sony’s purchase WAS the Destiny franchise powerhouse. If Bungie can’t support it (how are you financially negative on a game in the top earners every year??) then Sony will take control of it and have their own content strategy.
