My thought on this is that if a system is displaying an increasing behaviour (rising fascism), we should not expect that to change without any idea of what the mechanism will be. So far no intervention has been demonstrated that will change it, only make it worse (climate change, AI, etc)

I wish I could agree. The damage the US Administration can wreck on US democracy and the international Order (or what is left of it) is enormous. Institutions, structures and norms that are built up over decades can be smashed very quickly. Like felling a 200-year-old tree in one afternoon.
