I think the Vietnam experience is exactly why it's not a good idea to draft at such a young age. If you are inspired to sign up, they can use you. But requiring such young men would use up resources for training that they just don't have. Young men can work to assist in other ways.

I must disagree if your post is what you seem to be saying. I was a Navy Corpsman working Operating Rooms in DaNang. We were shown early we were cannon fodder but we all had issues being canon fodder. I don’t know any Vietnam Veterans who thought it was “a boys only adventure”. Hope it’s satire.

Ukraine has the right to determine their draft age. The US can make this particular recommendation ONLY — not a transactional direction. Just because our volunteer force is 18+ doesn’t mean we have any right to dictate another sovereign nation’s.
