If good price then snag one. If you don’t want Apple Intelligence then they are power houses. 8 gig is plenty the way osx uses memory. Only the internal LLM model needs that extra ram

Nope. Why would I ? OSX can do just about anything I want to do. The only thing I use one of my Linux machines is to native read the EXT3 file formats for f the Dish Network Hoppers so I can copy and increase or split EHD sizes
Docker’s pretty core to a bunch of infrastructure and hard for me to avoid, and boy is it a memory hog. I’ve got 16G and have to kill my browser sometimes just to test an image
Ever hear of Swap space? Those can be swapped out as plain apps, while the LLM cannot as part of the kernel as a mesh DB
The kernel used to be about ~4g while the LLM is a min 4 as it’s a mesh DB.
That’s the reason only the 📱15 Pros can run it but not the regular ones. Pros came with more ram
I know about swap, and if you knew about it as well, you'd know that it works independently of the type of application that is used.
The reason why old iPhones can't use it, is because iOS has no swap.
They are very painful to use even if you are doing only chrome. In my company we've decided to offload all 8gb mac's. Oldest CPU we have is m1 16 gigs.
So you’re talking SSD? Well sort of agree. But with iCloud and Dropbox offloading and dynamic reload not a big deal. And if local you ever try the Thunderbolt to nVME drive interface. Just like native SSD but lots more storage
You're assuming everyone has large iCloud Drive. Don't do that. Drop Box is a liability (Ex: Deleted Rick & Morty files from the show's creator account). External drives are slower than internal drives due to how that data gets accessed and bus limitations. It's not just like native SSDs.

The hardware experience on Macs just can’t be replicated. The trackpad alone is worth the purchase
