Trump risked nothing of his own. If there was a war, it was won by US business and consumers.

This breathless enthusiasm of the media for facile praise for Trump in things like this, where they would give no such unmitigated credit to other leaders, is a huge contributory factor to his popularity.

But the headlines are all most people ever read. We get that in the UK a lot. Thoroughly misleading headlines for people to read, then the articles behind a paywall, or read at the supermarket/newsagents on a paper they won't buy to find out the real story.

I discussed this with some US friends and the opinion is that if consumer prices rise and those proverbial eggs end up costing $10, then Americans will not want him to spend time on Gaza, Greenland or other pet projects.
