She's barely been there a month. She's young. She's the first trans woman in Congress. I'm going to give her a huge amount of leeway before criticizing, but there will be a point where appeasement will have to be called appeasement.
McBride has decided to decline using her platform to fight for trans rights in the hope it brings her political expediency. Maybe it’s the right thing for her but framing it as secretly beneficial to trans people is grotesque.
No I will not show my oppressors ‘compassion’ while they drive trans kids to suicide. I will show them resistance and defiance until they are defeated.
She's taking an approach similar to what was effective during the 1960s civil rights movement. That may not be the right approach for everyone but I understand and respect why she's doing it.
There were certainly multiple factors and a substantial one from the history, as I learned it, is that seeing the brutality of the KKK government actors against the peacefully protesting black people, forced the indifferent masses to see the horror of it all.
