The worst part is, it won't get any better. We are already so deep into the new web there is almost no escape from it. The bombardment of "subscribe now" is already everlasting and there is no force pushing against it, at least not in a lasting way.

I feel like knowledge and education is the best short-term solution to this problem, but the article insists it's not possible for the average person. It feels so defeatist to say that, but perhaps it's true.

A lot of volunteers and non-profits are working on ethical operating systems like Linux, but it's always dismissed as being too difficult. It feels like we value convenience over ethics, over and over again. How can we make a difference when the average person seems to actually want this hellscape?
