I hear people about how much taxes they pay in Europe, but by the time you pay our premiums for our health insurance, deductibles, co-pays and all that shit we’re paying more than they are in taxes.
And they don’t have to worry about an insurance company turning them down
In Australia and universal health care is a no brainer. I also am member of private non for profit Healthcare insurer. To have 4-5% out in tax for universal healthcare is fantastic.
In the UK, which is far from communist or Liberal last time I looked out of the window, it comes from general taxation, and appears to be about 4.5% of income. So yep. I can have a New kidney for £0.0 if I needed one. My blood pressure medication costs me £0.0 because I'm 60+ ditto vaccines. 👍
America is just a big business that profits off the lives of it citizens. Feed them garbage, make them sick, sell them medicine, repeat. 🔁 the reason they cut pediatric cancer research is so big pharma can still profit BILLIONS off the cancer meds.
We left the curation of our society to corporations. And at first it was limited to a box we had in one of our rooms that we would watch at the end of a day after work. They have learned since then and have now gotten us to carry that box around with us wherever we go and constantly looking at it.
I'm a non American giving Bluesky a try, but fuck me, I feel like I've been parachuted directly into the front line trenches of the terminal US culture war, no matter how much I try to tweak and influence my feed.
You know i wonder about merica. Most of the world has government supported health care and education they believe in gun control and use the metric system. Is the rest of the world wrong ie 7.7 billion or are the 340 million Americans right
4% of Medicare tax you have to pay for 40 years and can’t use till you retire. When you use it, it’s only for 10-20 years till you’re dead and the Media and voters call you “entitled” when you are on it.
Whereas the 20% health insurance today is being used as you work. So which is the scam?
Wrong. The massive flaw there is, not everyone waits until they are retired to get sick. 20% covers only so much, and for so long. A National Health Service funded from general taxation, pays literally from cradle to the grave with no time limit, for everyone, free more or less at source, for ALL.
I realized you can read it as people comparing the two systems in different countries. But ironically, the people in the US pay more than double what people in Europe pays for universal healthcare but we still don’t get universal healthcare. Yes we pay for Medicare AND private health insurance.
That's what happens when you keep on electing leaders who are only interested in other billionaires, and support the fact that the USA is paying far more for the same drugs that the rest of the world does. One reason beside greed, and shady dealing, is that an N.H.S. can buy MUCH cheaper in bulk. 👍
Medicare is in the US. Not talking about countries with Universal health care. The 20% is about what people with regular job put towards to afford their work health insurance.
Australia's public health system is imperfect, but covers everyone, regardless of age.
The total cost to state/national govs is less than 25% of total revenue. Personal income tax is about 25% of gross pay. Multiply those two together and you have just under 6% of gross pay spent on healthcare.
In Canada, Medicare is available from the day you are born until the day you die. The average cost is approximately $3000 per person under 65 and $15000 for those 65 and older. The provinces pay around 75% of the cost and the federal government 25%.
Health insurance companies do not provide care. They gatekeep it. They add unnecessary overhead and a profit motive. Single payer eliminates the profit motive and increases the negotiating power.
What a shame there isn’t a president who would use the “bully pulpit” to explain all of this to the American people in plain terms that everyone could understand. Too much to hope for, apparently.
We're probably better off staking out on our own. As much as I like you guys, it's kind of dumb to leave an empire to only then join the empire that the empire you left from had left from.
We need smaller countries in North America, ones that are responsive to the people.
The US meets all the definitions of an empire. Pretty much the whole of 20th century South America can be summed up with "the CIA f**ks everything up." Different tactics, same goal.
More prominently, it is now going down the self-cannibalization route literally every empire does in its decline.
And no, Canada is not an empire, but it's still a product of British imperialism, with all the baggage that comes with that territory. Baggage that is pretty identical what the US is reckoning with.
Additionally, States joining Canada would double the population, and then make Ottawa even more of a headache.
Part of the reason why I think the US has failed is because it's just too big. 340M people have to work within a single government, making corporate capture exceptionally easy.
I totally disagree, the USA meddling in other nations is not Empire. The USA us nothing like the old British Empire or the Holy Roman Empire, or the Roman Empire.
A superpower where 1 in 10 people live below the poverty line with no hope of a safety should they get ill. Why are Americans so stupid to think their country is so amazing. It’s a mess and is only going to get worse.
And where we work gets to decide our costs & health plan choices, and our cost in co-pays and deductibles line the pockets of health insurance investors. It’s such an incredibly broken system!
Is it just America though? Seems that far right idiocy is spreading far and wide these days. For some reason more and more people are eager to sell their rights and soul to authoritarians.

Why bother with the euphemism? under educated, ignorant, lacking critical thinking skills = intellectually, emotionally and psychologically vulnerable. And this is the GOP plan.
So, propagandized to be that way? Obv Americans have agency and need to wake the fuck up, but I think "propagandized" points to the reason so many of us r like that
Who cares? Where does free market health care work? It's amazing what one can learn when they design hospitals... universal healthcare is efficient and outperforms private healthcare to the point govts have to subsidise it. Free markets are overrated and misnomers.
I don’t care if a CEO says they’re leftist (they’re not, this guy just doesn’t wanna get shot), they are part of the problem unless their annual income is less than 1 million (999,999.00). If you can’t live on 86K a month then you are doing it way wrong.
If you posted this on X the response more than likely will be company sponsored health insurance is free, because they never see the dollar amount attached to it. It’s a benefit so has no tangible cost in their eyes.
Don't forget the employer has to match. So that's another 4% that could be added onto your paycheck. Then there's federal, state, local taxes, sales tax, taxes on the products you buy along the chain of production. At the end of the day we're paying a massive amount to taxes to prop up the USD.
Yes and save Money for decades to put your kids through College because it's so much better than paying nothing for Free College like the rest of the western world.
Yes
I-swede-had a conversation abt swedish health insurance.
The person mocked me for "taking alms" when I'm ill
I said it's not alms and that I expect to get what I paid for by our health insurance. An insurance I have influence over by voting and where my money goes to care not partly to "profits"
Don't forget 54% of adults in the US operate at or below a 6th grade level. Many have been told what to think not how to think and further been told not to believe anything except what dear leader(s) says.
The US is the largest adult day care facility in the world.
Make every election about "immigrants bad" and you can sell Americans anything. Notice there's no more "they're eating the dogs".
Watch the AfD in Germany, they're using the same tactics, and being funded by Musk as well, I bet.
Does anyone know if company health insurance a scam against workers? I can’t find numbers to answer this question, are large corporations, like Mal-Wart, pocketing surplus insurance payments?
Not sure what you mean by "propagandized." It's true that there's lots of propaganda directed at the populace. It's also true that everyone (even those who only have to use public wifi) have access to news sources the world over and in English. So it's not as if we're comparable to Russia or N Korea
The problem is the form. Just say that Medicare is a Private and exclusive service. You need special condition to access and you can be cancelled if not suitable. Medicare will not accept anyone, only special ones. Bad comunism solved 😂
Believe me, I've noticed.
That why I started commenting all over American posts back in 2017 after a bunch of school shootings.
I also enjoy planting my Canadian flag under my comments.
Gun control works.
Stop letting them pay off your politicians and implement sensible gun control. Country wide.
Oh, we have tried. The NRA and gun manufacturers have a strangle hold on lawmakers and a certain demographic.
Hell, we can't even get them to repair our infrastructure without them making a culture war issue out of it. Apparently, fixing a bridge is as controversial as me using a public restroom.
A full 7% of functioning adults in this country believe chocolate milk comes from brown cows. A large number of survey responders had no idea where chocolate milk even comes from.

Ironically - Trumps BFF is Putin, the Cremè de Communist 🤣
Healthcare, Education etc is Socialism ie Society
The US is a Fascist Oligarchy, with a Flawed Democracy that is being destroyed and heading for blatant Autocracy.
And they don’t have to worry about an insurance company turning them down
Trump voters will accept President Musk.
Without President Musk’s $$$; they could have lost the election.
All will hail President Musk.
Money will buy almost everything.

Empire would be if the USA annexed South America.
In the US the ratio of wealth inequality between CEOs and their workers is 470+:1
Here in Canada it's getting worst but it is only 20:1.
But please tell me again how national healthcare is bad.
We🇨🇦 are the 9th most Capitalist nation on the planet. The US isn't even Capitalist now, imo the USA is a Fascist Oligarchy.
