The theme is supposed to be about love enduring, but I find the end tragic because it seems like he’s going to spend the rest of his life pretending to have a relationship with a digital approximation of a ghost.

Some of the minor characters have healthier relationships with the technology. There’s a teenager who uses it to acknowledge the big moments in her life. Eventually emails are replaced by video calls. works on processing her grief.
The teenager pretend FaceTimes heaven to do things like “show her dad her prom dress” over time she uses the tech less and less and telling an AI actor playing your dad what college you are going to doesn’t seem too damaging with the context that she isn’t emotionally dependent on digidad.
