I've called my senators and left a voicemail for Schumer.
But I also just sent email to both my (Dem) senators, because I feel like I can express myself better and in more detail in writing, here's what I just emailed

It is no exaggeration to say that our Democracy is on the line, and the government-wide power grab(s) by Trump and Musk make this abundantly clear. They are usurping CONGRESS'S Constitutional Power of the Purse, as set out in Article I.
This is NO TIME for timidity. This is NO time for Senate-as-usual deal cutting and posturing.
It's been reported* that Leader Schumer is floating the idea of giving the Republicans who are rolling over cloture on the Continuing Resolution in return for being allowed to offer amendments to it.
This is absolutely ludicrous--nothing but theater, kabuki, kayfabe. A pretense to placate voters who are demanding that their elected representatives fight back. NO amendment from Dems has a snowball's chance in H*ll of passing.
this idea that
“Elon Musk is trying to shut down the government...If we shut down the government, it takes the blame away from him and it puts the blame on us for chaos and confusion.”
is cowardly BS.
Democrats need to REFUSE TO TAKE THAT BLAME and put it where it belongs: on the Republicans who are abdicating their constitutional duties to an unelected billionaire.
Time to fight back. Meaningfully, with no half-measures.
There is absolute fury here outside of DC, outside of the halls of congress, among those of us who have been staunch supporters of our elected Democrats and of our democracy for decades. And it will not be assuaged by timid, cowardly "Senate-as-usual" negotiations
