I'm so happy that I can provide hours and hours of social enrichment for Niko every day. He dislikes other birds, and I think bringing another bird home would stress him, so it's really important that I fill his social needs. 🥰
super super important last panel here. while my birds are in a flock, and it's a great thing for them since i work long hours... they're enrichment for each other, they aren't friends. if you get two birds that hate each other for "company," congrats, you just split your time in half innstead.
i used to keep finches and even they have their own personalities. I had two who were BEST FRIENDS. one had a leg injury so she couldn't perch and instead had a nesting area on the bottom of the cage. her best friend (who could perch) always sat down there with her to keep her company. CUTE
i always forget how ridiculous my birds' soap opera drama dynamics are until i have to write it up for a pet sitter. it's like the rules for a fucking gremlin. it's a straight up logic puzzle.

I got really REALLY lucky that my tiels bonded and are now a mated pair. Still keep the second cage handy just in case, even though they’ve cohabitated for years.
I'm always home because illness, so my dude bonded to me. He gets out every morning and calls the shots all day on when he hangs out. It definitely won't work like this for everyone. Extra glad for the panel demonstrating that not all birds will bond!
