Thank you for the reminder to all of the abled folks out there! My other reminder would be that many of us don’t “look” disabled or we have fluctuating symptoms, and people shouldn’t make assumptions about someone’s abilities or limitations.
I talk openly and honestly about my health whenever I get the chance. I do it to help prevent ppl from getting Lyme, to educate ppl what it's like to be ill/disabled, and to normalize it. Plus I find solidarity in it.
I'm newish to bluesky, but I'm going to do it here, too
Just a reminder that all of these executive orders from the administration are targeting not DEI, but DEIA. The A is accessibility: help for the disabled.
In my case some of my disability was literally unavoidable violence from a stranger and a criminal(and immoral, antisocial) act, so there's that too. See also: SA, war, hate crime, genocide, natural disaster, hereditary, etc.
I'm sure you're aware.
Yep. You don’t even have to do anything. I’ve gradually gotten to where I have migraines every day. No reason, just pain. Majority of jobs need screens of some sort to look at. An hour of looking at any screen and I’m out of commission for 16+ hrs. No health insurance, no meds.
Happened to me, heart attack left me partly but mildly disabled on my left side with chronic pain MVD, my employment is now at risk as i can't work like i did before, typing is more difficult and painful, manual handling is almost out completely.
As a matter of fact, while you generally don’t join by choice, you even kind of *want* to join at some point, because as you get older your options are pretty much “disabled” or “dead.”
Add my voice too. I woke up one day 11 years ago and couldn't walk. Rare disease blah blah. Things are better, but I'd rather *not* possess a handicap parking pass, if you know what I mean. #neuromyelitisoptica #nmo
Thankyou. I’ve learnt a lot on this journey, and I wouldn’t have known what every disabled person in nyc goes through everyday without it; I’m ashamed I didn’t. But I’m happy to fight to make it easier.
Facts. During COVID. I had contracted a separate illness with chronic exhaustion that wrecked my system for 2.5 years. Life can change for anyone, anytime.
Ty. It felt like an alternate reality, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, tbh. I wish we had a Start Trek mind meld or something 😔 most people can't comprehend what's possible.
End of 2008 I was working 34 hours a week as a bartender/waiter for 14 years and another 20 hours a week at Staples for 6 months. By the fall of 2009 I am put on long term disability and told I would likely never be able to work even 20 hours a week ever again. No accident, just illness. That quick.

Do you know how many ticks there are out there? They're in every state, every country
And you don't even feel them. Most ppl don't ever see them or even know they've been bit

The fascists hate you, too.
I'm sure you're aware.
You are only temporarily not disabled.
