Appreciate folks writing up news stories citing MinnMax interviews, I'm curious though: What's the downside of embedding the YouTube video in the story?

If you were monetizing a youtube page, putting in the shorts vertical or in a story somewhere will not get you watch time. It will get you new subscribers though. The best place to harvest them. If you tube growth is your thing.
if i'm in the mood to watch a video, i'll watch a video. if i'm in the mood to read a story, i'll read the story. provide the link for people who are curious but an embed feels like extra clutter getting in the way of what you're trying to say that's your own thoughts on it, imo.
do news sites worry about "click offs" like social media sites do? I know twitter algorithmically deprioritizes tweets with links so you don't leave the app
ResetEra is a gaming forum that's shockingly well moderated. As a result, it has retained a smart and thoughtful crowd, and I've heard a few games journos talk about it being one of the places they check for breaking news etc. I lurk there often.
I know it's more work for editing but maybe providing a vertical slice of the video that features the interview or call outs the article is referencing.
It's still up to the site to publish it but it eliminates the ad revenue challenges others have mentioned in this thread.

Not much benefit to linking to YouTube, particularly when you want people to read what you're writing (assuming it's written content).
