One of the biggest factors in the "are you happy with your publisher?" conversation is communication. And yet publishers--I know from experience--can be super busy multitasking for lots of authors. We aren't available on demand every time a question pops up. And a slow response time is...

... likely due to any number of factors, work-related or personal (especially for those of us who run small presses and also have freelance careers and caregiving duties). But as an author, feeling on the outside of the process, not hearing back or waiting on a promised cover sample can feel awful.

I feel like, in my DIY group, I can reassure my authors that they're doing a great job, and that it's not personal if they haven't received XYZ material or response yet from their publisher. And I wonder if there's a way we creatives can do this for each other on an informal basis.
