Yup, I think about this every day, I have an autistic child and her education is constantly on my mind with all of this insanity. Nevermind what will happen to the rest of the community. Adults with intellectual disabilities depend on Medicaid and Social Security.
That Stephanie Ruhle is a smart cookie. I'd love to see this message shared nationwide to educate those who don't understand what's going on, and expose those who choose to exploit it.
I've worked in three global corporations and I can tell you that the idea of the public sector being more efficient is itself a myth.
Government and corporations share all the same factors that reduce efficiency. But in private sector you add leeches at the top sucking up money.
I've worked in over 6 fortune 500 companies in my 45 years of service. I've seen the worst from the public sector, and the non-profits I've worked for were the BEST. They understood that they're there for the people, not the money
and of course .. who would get the contract if it went private .. hmmmm an elon musk company ? for sure LOL .. as if that man doesn't have his fingers in enough pies
I think there is more than saying it's not profitable , it's trying to make things impossible for certain people , mail is a lifeline for some , re merchandise , snail mail , VOTING, information ie flyers , it's a main way for non profits to get donations .. just a lot of reasons to keep the mail
And in the effort to privatize, HOW many post offices, PO Box facilities and delivery days will we lose? People in rural America are NOT profitable enough through their mail to make it worth keeping those offices open... 50+ miles to retrieve your mail, anyone?
Just imagine now, after Trump privatizes the post office, and they remove the P.O. boxes as not profitable enough.
Your son would have had to travel to Grand Junction 35-40 miles away.
Magical thinking. Privatization will not fix our debt. If left to individuals their legacy will not convey to generations of their heirs. Institutions with common values that civil and public servants can uphold is a motivator to maintain ethics. Should be free from a profit margin for motivation.
I was raised on this. My dad was there for the bank corruption in the eighties, helping to clean it up. My uncle worked for odot. We know firsthand what happens with privatization and unregulated parties who don't have to answer to you when they do something wrong.
Govt *literally* exists to do what the market can't/won't (e.g. educate poor folks) and what people cannot do on their own (e.g. build roads). You may have problems with USPS, but there's no way UPS or FedEx is gonna deliver a letter anywhere in the country - urban, rural, or otherwise - for $0.73.
Difference in Business and Government
one MUST make a profit to survive
The other must serve the people to survive
When a Gov becomes a business to make PROFITS, it no longer serves the people, it only serves the people running the gov and they'll keep that power until they are removed - forcibly
Yeah she's pretty spot on except for Fed Ex and UPS being "cheaper than the post office". She may have enough money not to notice the difference but a $40 package at UPS costs $10 at the post office. That's the point.
But when the nearest post office is 50 miles away, you more than make up that difference in gas, time, and maintenance. Many rural areas will lose their post offices, and mail delivery will be cut to once a week. All for the sake of better profits...
