The Australian and Canadian results are reminders that, yes, you do need to compromise with the electorate to win, but you also need to be willing to stick down lines in the sand and say 'this is what we believe in' on some things. That is a lesson that our own government could do with learning.
Australian Conservatives said they could cut net migration 100,000 below the estimate of 260,000/year (Population is 26 million so these are higher share of population). Was unsuccessful politically. There was more of a debate about how to make the numbers add up
