it would be possible to be a lot more realistic in the values + hues, but i'm really enjoying bending it in this direction so it feels more like a spur for the imagination than a literal representation of a space.
but that's a win / win situation because that's the last thing separating it from actually being three dimensionally part of the scene. and then it won't exactly be displacement anymore, more like "geometry" (though this isn't polygonal).
