frontiers has been out for a few years and the surprise has long since worn off, but it was still one of the greatest creative decisions sonic team has made in the last 20 years to go all in on metalcore music for the titan boss fights

And the fact that the songs and fights were kept so secret until release definitely helped elevate everything. Wonder if they’ll be able to match that level for next mainline, if they’re planning to.
it's frustrating how out of SA1, 2, and Heroes, only one had a really satisfying final boss fight
Perfect Chaos had the spectacle but they whiffed with the mechanics (and swapping out "Open Your Heart" for a generic doom-'n'-gloom final boss theme for the last phase)
and whoever decided that "What I'm Made Of" needed to fade out for a fucking canned attack animation (complete with the most bored-sounding "aaaaaargh" imaginable) needs to like
never work on a game again, ever
The Finalhazard in SA2, though? pitch-perfect, all the way through
it's the way the vocals fade in to signify a phase transition. sonic team looking at the best idea metal gear rising had just lying on the ground unused going "is anyone else gonna take this? no?"
Woah I keep forgetting that adding core at the end is a way older concept than I thought. Mb if that sounded rude, guess I get a bit picky when people throw around breakcore everywhere
yeah!!!! i was a big sleeping with sirens girlie in high school so a friend telling me kellin quinn was lead vocals in a sonic game was what made me interested in frontiers in the first place!
