taking the term "media literacy" away and putting it up on a high shelf. no more making posts like "if you don't agree with my opinions on tv shows it's because media literacy is in the toilet"

There's also my favorite phrase that people like to use "If you don't like (X) then you just hate ~joy and whimsy~", with (X) usually being some 3D platformer game or potentially a Mario.
"media literacy" is supposed to mean, like, being able to spot authorial bias and propaganda in the news! it's not just a buzzword you whip out to call someone stupid when they have a different opinion on a movie
From a literary analysis perspective it does also include being able to make logical and obvious connections from textual evidence. But that too is different from having differing opinions.
I dunno man, once enough people start saying it it becomes the definition. RIP "decimate", a word that now means "fully destroy" because it sounds cool
I get the feeling that the assholes abusing this term are doing so because you can no longer call people a certain insult made from half an ableist slur.
Replace every instance of "media illiterate" with that word and tell me it doesn't sound like we're back on LJ.
