the thing is i would just start muting more political terms, but i also don't want to be uninformed about what's going on. i'm fine with SOME politics posting. but there's always that handful of people i follow who feel obligated to turn their accounts into a fire hose of bad news via shares

Completely agreed. Also just wish they'd stop dunking their heads in a boiling mass of doom, death, and grand evils foretold by people with questionable grasp on reality (it's bad but it ain't as bad as those people say) but we all know that's not stopping.

There's the "hide this post" and the muting keywords. But sometimes you'd have to nuclear block accounts to stop the posts from being shown on your feed.

So far only third party clients can do it. I use Tokimeki but I think Deck Blue can disable individual shares too. I use it all the time
