I was curious about this previously, so I checked, and I believe the scientific consensus I found is that the wolves came to us first (in that people were enchanted by the thought of humans adopting some adorable orphaned wolf pups, aaand the scientists had to put the kibosh on that).

Also I still uphold...there's two types of furry artists. One who draw themselves as extremely recognizeable, the other who draw themselves purposely not. Meanwhile, in both cases, their pet will be drawn like Balto, Simba, or whatever furry movie was especially influential that year.

Am I wrong? Wasn't there a time when if someone drew their pet, you could tell which movie they liked growing up? Cuz there's lots of resources for fully humanoid characters, but not as many for anthropomorphized animals. We often gravitated towards the few prominent media at the time.
