As a student, I watched Mark Gottfried(!) lead us to two Sweet Sixteens. Heading into the Keatts era, my expectations were to make the tournament (not bubble) every year and throw in one deepish run.

Eight years passed and we made three tournaments. Yes, 2024 was amazing but it really was only a nine game stretch. The season before that STUNK. He was literally gone until they made their miraculous run.
I don’t think our fans need to expect the success we had in the 70s/80s; however is it too much to ask for a program where we aren’t on the bubble and we contend for regular season titles? I don’t believe that’s too much to ask.
I think Keatts did a fine job, but in NIL that isn’t good enough. You obviously need buy in but you can’t create an environment that breeds apathy about basketball. That is where I’ve been for years and that’s a sad reality.
He constantly complained and put blame on anyone but himself.
Moving forward, we need accountability and a plan that will breed long-term success.
You can stop with the he went to a Final Four nonsense. It was an aberration and he clearly wasn’t going to bring consistency. That’s the thing WPN needs desperately.
As for a new coach, I know everyone is talking Will Wade and that’s fine. I think Ryan Odom is also great too.
But here’s my list:
-Kelvin Sampson (it’s not realistic but he has lots of ties to NC)
-Justin Gainey (he’s a grad and a great recruiter. Also the coach in waiting at UT. Not an accident

-Tony Skinn (George Mason coach, outstanding defensive mind and will get a P5 job soon)
-Ben McCollum (guy just wins everywhere he goes)
Again, I like Wade and Odom too. Either would be a good option, but I just don’t understand the Wade fascination.
