The fucking reverence that DOJ holds this one decades old bit of guidance is just one reason why our legal system is crumbling. The people who play by the rules are punished, and the people who don’t are rewarded.

I agree that Jack Smith had no choice but to dismiss the charges against Trump, given DOJ policy, and that moving for dismissal himself ensured that his actions weren't misrepresented by subsequent Trump appointees.

But I doubt a future prosecutor will take up these cases after Trump leaves office.
