Oh hahaha I love hearing of the blowup behind the scenes. We all knew it was just a matter of time before the cabinet secretaries and Trump would tire of the ketamine fueled nut job.
I'm not sure how much of this is true. It reads as something Trump or Rubio told Haberman to make them appear more in control and decisive than actions suggest (see what Trump told the press 15 mins after the mtg). I can see Rubio being annoyed at his humiliation but he should be used to it by now.
To us yes, to the MAGA lovers, it’s all about cutting government, and all three were talking about that. So the message is there, the only thing is how they implement it (skipping over my pet peeve over how its all illegal in the first place, because that would be crazy to mention in a news story)
“Mr. Duffy said the young staff of DOGE was trying to lay off air traffic controllers. What am I supposed to do? Mr. Duffy said. I have multiple plane crashes to deal with now, and your people want me to fire air traffic controllers?”
This is how Trump likes it. Pitting people against each other. Like a big game of Apprentice. How long till he tells Musk “you’re fired”. I give it a couple more months of bad press, stock market drop and declining poll numbers. Trump is a psychotic game show host playing President.
“The exchange ended with Mr. Trump telling Mr. Duffy that he had to hire people from M.I.T. as air traffic controllers. These air traffic controllers need to be “geniuses,” he said.”
“He aggressively defended himself, reminding the cabinet secretaries that he had built multiple billion-dollar companies from the ground up and knew something about hiring good people.”
A missed opportunity to provide context. Mr Musk's rockets explode, his cars crash, his social media platform is overrun by bots, and his stock value is tanking.
As a FL resident who has had to endure what feels like decades of Marco Rubio tripe, I offer a very weak and whispered "good on ya, please grow a couple and step up for the rest of us".
This is NOT what DOGE was created for. “Cabinet officials almost uniformly like the concept of what Mr. Musk set out to do — reducing waste, fraud and abuse in government” It’s plan is lawless gutting of the federal government. Nothing to do with waste fraud and abuse. DOGE is the fraud and abuse.
of course this meeting was not a "significant indication that President Trump is willing to put some limits on Mr. Musk". before maggie even had written her piece, trump told the press that "if they don't do the firing, elon will do the firing."

Sure wish someone could get ahold of Musk's phone.
MIT because they need to be geniuses is just so ridiculous.

Begins (I kid you not) “Marco Rubio was incensed.”
Lots of talk about “efficiency” and how hard it is to achieve.
Practically like normal infighting among people working on a difficult problem.
Didn’t see the word “illegal” anywhere.
