I never actually had a debut, I had already been streaming for a while using a webcam, then my brother discovered picrew and made a png for me which I used only sometimes for a while, eventually using it all the time then eventually I got a customizable 2D model and oh look I'm a vtuber...

Got model. Learned OBS. Hit stream. I had no social media presence and knew nobody 😂 I regret nothing. As an anxious creature it was the perfect way to start. low pressure :P helped me learn and gain confidence.

I just did it. Spent the better part of half a year in my head about what I needed to get done for it, figured if I didn't just do it it'd never happen. Which would probably be my advice, never let perfect be the enemy of good!

I didn't debut. The most I ended up doing was recording a showcase for my model to highlight the toggles and movements.

I took a more wholesome, positive, redemptive spin on the infamous Sonic the Hedgehog 4 marketing campaign (with a twist at the end) in the days leading up to using this PNG+ model live. I then dove into playing Sunlust, a brutal but beautiful megaWAD for Doom II: Hell on Earth.

One thing I wanted to do was do a ventriloquist-like act where I also voice my sidekick, Mordaka, instead of just having him hovering over my shoulder, silently judging me. However, I cannot seem to find a way to implement a togglable reverb effect in OBS.

It is better to simply do and be ok than to wait for the perfect moment for perfectionism. You are not going to have any moments at all if you do not simply begin.

my debut ended up being kind of a flop unfortunately...but hey! live and learn!

I would definitely change how I promoted myself beforehand

My advice would be to network and play around with editing software of any kind, so if you don't have a lot of money you could whip some promo up yourself!!

Debut was multi streamed!

I would have double checked everything a fourth time.

I would have not done a lore vid.

I would have committed to a personality other than my own, and played up a character, even if it was just a little.

I would suggest the same to anyone who was planning to debut.

My genuine advice is debuts are a relic of people thinking that you *have* to be a part of "vtuber culture" and do the same things that everyone else does. If you don't want to debut, don't do it. It's a huge time and resource sink.
