I am not trying to be cruel but I agree: it is an enormously bad time to be trying to break into games. It’s a bad time to be a senior+ in games even, & I don’t see it improving soon. By all means, keep making art you care about, but it’s so unlikely to be a “pay the bills” career at this point.

with the bioware layoffs that’s more narrative people looking for work. there are currently like three jobs in narrative design. if you’re just starting out you should definitely learn literally anything else

Now I have to move on to survive and watch other people succeed.
I checked our listings and this was one of two (the other was D4 class design) openings I found that weren’t designated senior or above, just in case you find it useful.

even though they don't know to market it, they know it has value and they don't know who trust on how to get it
and yeah, Stella being not scooped is a damning case of how bad it is
I'd love to break into games and getting nowhere in months and months stings. Makes you question yourself and be like 'maybe I'm just shit?'
Seeing people with vastly more experience say it's grim out there for everyone is... well, not reassuring, but at least sobering.
It's horrifying how fragile the industry is right now. Heck, how fragile every industry is right now.
I don't like these interesting times.😢
I do this per my own definition of success: no matter the value appraised to it by others.
In a perfect world, creatives are heard. In an imperfect one, we make noise anyway.
It's a lot.
Shit is hard, yo.
