i loved the one where i discovered a "mysterious scroll" that said "curses upon ye who does not pass this on!"
Genius that ignoring a chain letter gives you a science boost 😅
First time I pillaged a district and this one rly made me pause and get sad about all the knowledge that’s been lost. I think I lost some codices to civil unrest during the antiquity crisis which this echoed in a cool way
The theme of the run is coming back around in the modern era too! Some precious artifacts were stolen by thieves and melted down, now we only have a memorial 😭
I enjoy them so much! The most outstanding one for me was the soldier who searched for the oasis behind the hill... And the next hill... And the next hill... It gave me chills (but this is positive, I really felt this somehow)
It's not a narrative event per se but JUST as Augustus declared a surprise war on me my best commander and most of his army were wiped out by the plague. Very historical!
With a bit of thinking, it doesn't even require math. It's a riddle. Once you've understood what the riddle wants you to figure out, it's fairly obvious that each answer corresponds to one solution path, and you just need to identify whether the correct one gives a larger or smaller number.
Quoting Zitkala-Sa when building Monks Mound was the first time I ever felt like my family history was truly represented in a Civ game, like the elation of pure joy was intoxicating. All of the events with Tecumseh, like recording Birdman’s journeys in dance, the rise of [Winnebago] Prophet, and the
It was important to get indigenous voices in there; a record of a place by a settler or “explorer” just wouldn’t do. Naturally it was hard to figure out who to go for for Mississippian things, but Zitkala-Sa was just so good!
And thanks on the dinosaur story; the uncovered skeleton?
Another one that might be a bit on the nose that I’m biased towards was written by Angel DeCora, Zitkala-Ada’s contemporary & prominent 18th century artisan (& one of my ancestors): ‘My people are a race of designers. I look for the day when the Indian shall make beautiful things for all the world’
And yes to the uncovered skeleton— I assumed it was dinosaur or a similar fossilized creature; we have a lot of stories about people finding deposited bones and using them as sacred medicines,
I’ve also heard a story from one of my teachers about an old dinosaur bone clan that no longer exists
That’s the idea! What I liked about writing that was that there’s no option to say “oh that’s a dinosaur.” “Dinosaur” doesn’t exist as a concept at that time. Think about things as people would then!
You know that’s actually a conversation I’ve had with people about two-spirit people, gender roles, and pre-19th century hygiene
Some folks were upset at the description of menstruation being described as “women’s sickness”, and communities would build menstrual huts but people quickly forget the
just want you to know I keep thinking about your words. this is what I was hoping for, and we did our best to be thorough and thoughtful. thank you for telling me, and I’ll be sure to pass your comments about Tecumseh onto Rue (their writer): I know it’ll mean a lot to him too.
I just had this happen to me while playing on the Switch. I also have to say, very impressed with performance on the Switch as well! I was worried once I saw the graphics, but it is great so far!
Grauballe Man is housed in an amazing exhibit in Aarhus, where I lived for a bit. The whole place is dimly lit, and the floor is squishy. Somber music plays, and the exhibits show different things sacrificed to the bog. You look into a pit, and there he is.
i don’t think i’ve been to Aarhus but i have family in DK, would be a cool detour to check out the exhibit sometime! bog bodies are so interesting. i’ve seen some of the ones housed in Ireland
The narrative events added so much texture and enjoyment to my game tonight!! I absolutely loved it, definitely one of the main highlights (that and the art style). I am actually looking forward to getting to the next age just to see what history related narrative events will pop up! Thank you 🙏🏼
The narrative events really make my actions feel like they have weight—Hatshepsut’s reign in Antiquity as a despotic ruler felt that much more visceral when I triggered events on how best to remake statues in her empire.
definitely hoping to support this for a very long time! need a bit of time for the game to settle and see what players respond to, but I’m looking forward to what we do in the future. we’ve just scratched the surface of what this system is capable of!
Really liked the unique events from José Rizal. I only discovered his story with this game but the fact that there's unique events for him made me invested in my leader a lot more than in other games. Kudos! Narrative events are one of my favourite features of Civ 7.
