In 40 states, undocumented immigrants pay higher state and local tax rates than the top 1% of households living within their borders. And providing then access to work authorization would net an additional $40 billion in tax contributions - almost all of it going to the federal government.

To put that $100BN in perspective: That's slightly more than what Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma collectively received in federal funds in 2021.
