Listening to people talk about generative pseudo-AI as though it's splitting the fucking atom fills me with secondhand embarrassment on a scale I've never encountered.

It's like if when peephole dioramas were invented, but instead of being a penny amusement, somehow every dumbass 1900s guy was like "these dioramas will revolutionize the world" "my children will go to school in a tiny diorama of a classroom" "soon my doctor will give me a diorama of medicine"
I think a lot of these folks really do believe that there's, like, some sort of sentience or consciousness involved, the way their assorted sci-fi and Japanese Animes had promised, because they don't know a transistor from a neuron, or a neuron from a sausage, or a sausage from a quark ...
Ignorance itself is not a crime, and I am not suggesting every Timmy, Tammy, and Tabatha has to become versed in rudimentary computer science ... but also, it is SO rudimentary, and they are often so WILLFULLY ignorant, that it's, well ... as the children would say ... so hecka eepy cringe pog ...
