After falling short in landing Bregman, Jed Hoyer said any other moves the Cubs make this spring are going to be smaller things financially.

“We’ll always look but I think that right now the big blocks, so to speak, and the medium blocks are on this team. We’ll be able to make moves in season.”

Cubs team president Jed Hoyer just said he’s “obviously disappointed” not being able to sign Alex Bregman, who he called a great player and great fit for Cubs.

Hoyer said he was given green light by ownership to push their budget to sign Bregman but ultimately they couldn’t match Red Sox’s offer.
