Heartbreaking to read. My dad had issues and I always defended him by saying he was the best dad he knew how to be. Same with your mom. Their best just wasn't our definition of best. I never doubted his love, though. Dementia sucks. Looking forward to reading the book.

The small, 2013 book "Making Rounds with Oscar" by Dr. David Dosa explained dementia in as close to layman's terms as I've ever seen.

I read it first as a cat guy (this was Oscar the Cat, who sensed end-of-life in patients in Providence, R.I.) ... but retained its lessons.
