After another weekend of dubious refereeing and VAR being no use at correcting it, how can we encourage new blood to come through and replace this lot? There used to be an idea to get retired players involved, why not sign up youth players who don't quite make the grade and train them to be refs?

I only have a couple of problems with your refereeing discussion. 1. People say it will take decades to see the fruits of the new programs. Why did it take until now to implement those things? It is not like we did not have a referee crisis and issue for a while.

2. I never ever want any refs abused or their families hurt. But every time we get incompetent decisions, the discussion always shifts to the worst part of people's behaviors. PGMOL comes out and defends the dumb decision without actually saying this was wrong and we will have accountability for it.

Then it becomes a referendum on the awful people in society. This is how systems continue to maintain their injustices it is always a deflection towards hey look at that over there. That is awful, we all say it is awful. Meanwhile, they never do anything to change.
