It’s about to get worse as the annual puppy gift season is here.
When you take on a dog it’s for life not until it becomes inconvenient or tiresome.

To your excellent article I would also add that I think rescues in England and Wales should be licenced as they are in Scotland. Too many well-meaning but overwhelmed rescues are passing dogs from pillar to post without proper assessment resulting in risk to both the dogs and their carers.

If you want to add an animal to your household you should go through a similar process to adopting a child. Be interviewed & vetted and have 3 referees. Irresponsible pet ownership is on the increase.

I’ve adopted a dog two times in Scotland and we had to have a reference and had to go back a week later once the reference was checked to sign an adoption agreement. If you are getting a dog please please adopt from a good centre. Loved both of ours and miss them every day.

Dog owners should be sterilised unless they have a breeding licence. Which should cost a prohibitive amount and need a test to obtain.

Same goes for their dogs. :-)

And thousands of dogs stolen off the streets of Eastern Europe and imported to the UK for owners who say rescue centres won't let them have a dog.
