The Leafs weren't their best tonight, and I'd say the Caps were almost certainly the better team, but this genuinely might have been the worst officiated game of the season for the Leafs so far. Any other contenders?
Tonight showed that Mathew and Marner don't belong together regularly anymore, right? More of an emergency down a goal late situation like Malkin and Crosby in Pittsburgh? Also, can Brad not be patient, another center now or a winger to replace Holmberg/Robertson would be nice.
Capitals played a defensive game. Rarely when the Leafs had the puck in their own zone, did they pressure. Instead they fell back to box them in. The whole game.
My question, why didn't Berube adjust to this strategy once? They did it in the first, second and third. No answer. Look at the shots
There is also a penalty for pushing a players helmet off like Tavares did so the penalty should have been called on the Leafs before that ever happened
Patches may be back tomorrow, so if it’s my call, Robbie sits unfortunately. If not him, Grebenkin. Love the guy, but he was not effective in any way tonight.
Domi was a lot more injured than we knew about I think. He looked good for the first few games and then fell off a cliff. I’m willing to bet he’s working through more than one issue.
Does the rule about ref involvement in a goal need changed to if it has a material effect? Direct contact in to net off an ref is obviously no goal, In situations where without the ref contacting the puck the goal isn’t scored would make sense to be ruled out, that changed the game
I watch a decent amount of hockey, so I’m not biased towards them … but do the Leafs get some of the worst officiating because they’re not the real NHL?

What a dumb league. I can’t take the NHL seriously.
Who would you rather fight, 100 Robertson sized stolarz, or 1 stolarz sized Robertson's
