i do not comprehend the subgenre of western "mech" fiction that's all about body dysmorphia from the YA dystopia-ass robot that youve been plugged into or whatever. there's always such a disinterest in the robots and the politics

sorry loser cant relate im getting gender euphoria from PILOTING my friend the MXR-144 Scrimblongus she has a claw laser gun and a shield with a hidden rocket launcher and was built to appease the political machinations of Supreme Commander Belfurg Magnadox which will inevitably collapse in a month
im beefing with mechsploitation fiction enjoyers bc theyre so aggressively disinterested in the wider mecha genre while also acting like their small battletech-y subgenre is emblematic of the entire genre. its frustrating if ur into the wider robot sphere
maybe it's because i've only read 3 of them so far but they came off at least sorta anime-inspired
like, ancyor mauls shit with its hands like a fucked up z'gok
It kinda makes me miss the made up much more artsy version of Hideki Anno era.
And I don’t think a lot of them have even actually read the Attack Helicopter story and they’re just grasping around in the dark trying to reinvent the wheel and also falling for the exact thing that it was critical of
Wow cool… exploitation of underprivileged groups by the military industrial complex because they’re really desperate to get like the good health insurance.
Especially since they're honestly missing what BT is all about too, it's anime as hell
BT is about future knights, warriors and mercs fighting it out with giant fighting robots controlled by their minds and joysticks. Some even have swords!
its not even so much that these people are battletech fans as much as their preconceived notions of the genre are like... the weird lame gritty tacticool version of itself that battletech kinda fronts to its surface-level media
Ahhhhh yeah. My understanding is that late 90s era BT was run by someone who projected his RL military experience onto the property and it took YEARS to undo that aesthetic. BT2018 and MW5 helped swing the pendulum back a little bit for video games. But the damage was done for perception.

But honestly what examples are you thinking of? I'm blanking cuz all of the Western mecha I'm into knows what it's about
