Just instead of Autism/ADHD/etc., they were labelled “disruptive”, “stupid”, “difficult”, “problems”, and all sorts of slurs (even more than they are today).

A lack of understanding is never an excuse to bully children.
I'm glad humanity is getting smarter and more empathetic, well most are.
She is not a counselor, therapist, or doctor. She was a church secretary and volunteer teacher. She was and is still spreading abuse.
Before that, I was a (R slur), "difficult", "oppositional", and - my favourite - "noncompliant".

I was put in "Emotionally Disturbed". This was a big step forward from a decade previous, though.
Still, unofficially a lot of people used a lot worse words . . .
That way we both learned more, as she learned from a second, drastically different, viewpoint, and I learned it as well.
