Yep! Thank you for posting this! So true. I didn’t realise there was a term for what I ‘am’ until my mid-thirties. I wish I’d understood it sooner as I didn’t always allow myself to honour my own needs. But I’m glad I sussed it out in the end and I like the way I am ☺️

I didn't realize that I was ace until a few years ago, and I am 36. That said, I lived in the Bible Belt for a while, so being ace is less on the radar. That said I am female so there's a mixed response from evangelicals feeling it's a "gift of chastity" (not for me), or a sin of not submitting.

I had one person who asked me why I "needed a label", and I said, "For the first time I have words to express my experience. I have never been able to to articulate that I have no interest in appearance, and I am more interested in personal connection." That was a major breakthrough, for me.

That's also forgetting that if you don't label yourself, others will label you antway (as told in your 1st comment) w/o your permission. Might as well have a label that allow you to find resources and community.

Especially among those of us who were adults b4 the internet. I don't think I even heard the word used about humans 'til my 40s. And then I misunderstood it and didn't realise it applied to me. But I've been ace my entire life. So glad I finally understand why I was never that into relationships!
